THE PRESENT MURAL IS SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT THAN THIS AND THE CLASS IS 6 DAYS. SEE HOME PAGE FOR PHOTO.
THE INFORMATION BELOW FOR WHAT IS ACCOMPLISHED IS STILL GOOD
THIS IS THE ACTUAL MURAL FROM THE CLASS
IT'S PART OF MY TUSCANY SERIES OF MURALS
Welcome to my Mural Workshop, geared for personal achievement and for the Novice as well as the
Professional/Faux Artist.
This is another mural that YOU can do, do not be intimidated by the complexity of the mural! You will
leave with this mural completed and the knowledge needed to do it on your own and
"The main focus of the workshop is to teach students independent thinking in their journey
into art. This means that you will get the basics of how to convert your own designs and ideas to canvas or
wall by yourself."
You'll learn what the horizon line, the vanishing points and parallel lines do to give us a more realistic professional
rendering and how simple atmospheric perspective will take you a long way in your future mural painting.
I TEACH you how to do this with no pre-requisites of any kind needed!!!
The Mural I have chosen for the rest of 2005 is a good combination of both Trompe L’oeil and a classic type mural.
The Mural is a combination of various elements including some originated from my husbands photography work.
Lucky for me his hobby is photography! At any rate I feel this is
a good mural for the Artist starting out or the seasoned decorative artist.
Subjects you will learn are as follows:
- One and two and three point perspective.
- Composition.
- Pricing and business.
- Color Theory.
- Sourcing of canvas and other suppliers.
- Drawing a scale drawing, including how to transfer this along with your ideas to a canvas.
- Learn to create your own patterns when your mural demands a repetitious design as in an architectural border.
- Construction of stretcher, canvas stretching, cutting out and applying to a wall.
Elements in “New” mural.
- Stone blocking. Show the inside of the blocks in perspective and the outside of the blocks which are not.
- Tile Floor. Learning to do a partial tile floor in perspective.
- Wrought Iron Fence in perspective, as well as how to find equal spacing in the design. Not as hard as you'd think.
- Creating space with landscape tricks. Give your murals depth using color values. Learn how color values work.
- Painting architecture in perspective as in the building in the mural above.
- Shadows in perspective.
- Creating beautiful skies. Learn to paint distance in your skies using atmospheric perspective.
- All supplies provided, including canvas
General questions you should ask any studio you are interested in.
- How long has the instructor been painting and teaching?
- For me, 30 years painting and 7 years combined teaching.
- How much will this workshop cost??
- $985.00 for 5 day workshop 8:30 am to 5:00 pm Mon-Fri.
- What type of supplies will we be using?
- Readily available at any store or specialty paint store.
- You don't have to spend a fortune to get good supplies.
- Why don't you use cambric cloth?
- Well, while cambric cloth is good for smaller pieces. I.E. faux windows etc. It's more
professional to use canvas as it comes in larger sizes to accommodate any job. Also, a poly
canvas is better than 100% cotton and goes up like a good wallpaper.
- How large are the classes?
- No larger than 7 students.
- Will I have constant one on one instruction?
- Will I be able to paint this mural even if I haven't painted before?
- Yes, most people taking the mural class have never painted a mural before, check out
some of my reference letters as most had no prior painting experience. After learning the
techniques and breakdown of the various steps you will have no difficulty painting this mural.
- Will I be able to design my own murals after this class?
- Yes, you'll get all the ingredients that you will need to create your own mural, using
your own designs and your own style.
- How will I get my mural home, especially if I'm flying?
- The canvas is stretched on a frame and is painted while on that frame. When completed
the mural will be cut out of the frame and rolled up. It can then be carried on the plane
with you and the flight attendant can store it until landing.
- Will you provide help long after the class is over?
- Will meals be provided as part of the cost?
- Yes, breakfast at 08:30 and lunch at 12:30, as well as snacks and soft drinks
- How will I get from the airport to the hotel?
- how do I get from the hotel to your studio?
- My assistant will take you back and forth.
- Are there restaurants and shops within walking distance of the hotel and is it a same area?
- The hotel costs seem low. Is the hotel an OK place to stay?
- Yes, it's and efficiency type place with microwave, small fridge, etc in each room. I hear
it's small, clean and adequate.
- How far is the hotel from your studio?
- Approximately a 10 minute drive.
- Will there be step by step demonstration?
- Yes, I will demo a step and you will follow each step with one on one help.
Dear Prospective Student,
- I hope you research all the workshops available and then do the math and take a look at mine.
- Because the workshop is less expensive then most studios are offering doesn’t mean you get less.
You’ll be pleasantly surprised to find you get much more, especially if you’ve already been to one
of the expensive studio’s and you still don’t get it!!
- I can give you the techniques and knowledge that will enhance your artistic ability and your own
style. Like a lot of things in life, painting is a combination of technique, style and talent.
Talent and style will improve once the techniques are applied without the stress.
- No one need feel uncomfortable about asking for help on any of the steps. I am there to make
sure you get a good foundation and understanding of the painting process.
- I hope that after you have checked elsewhere you come and have a fun filled time with me.
Looking forward to serving your needs.
